the one you've been waiting for

I have kind of avoided this update because I am not sure of how people are going to take it. Which is very unlike me, to worry about what others think, but here I am admitting that to you.

A year and a half ago we started our journey of foster-to-adopt. When we started it, we felt like we heard clearly from the Lord that this was to be our path. I don't think we heard wrong. A dear friend of mine told me that sometimes God takes us down a path, just to help us avoid another path that is not in his plan for us. When Eric and I started down this road, we envisioned that in a year, tops, our house would be filled with the sound of little footsteps, and that has obviously not come to pass. However, many other very good things have happened during this time, things neither of us would trade for the world.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. - Isaiah 55:8

We have decided that we haven't decided.

Confused yet? Just hang on.

We are not even certified for foster care yet, after a year and a half. We are not stopping the process, but we are not actively pursuing it right now either. And by that I mean I am not calling our social worker or emailing her to find out what is going on. I am not calling or emailing her supervisor either. We are leaving this part of adoption completely and totally in God's hands.

Here is what we are doing:
We are researching.
We are looking into several different types of adoption, and several different agencies.
We are still very excited about, and committed to, adoption.
That. has. not. changed.
Our hearts are for the orphan.

Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. - James 1:27

I should say orphans.
Because we believe (and it has been confirmed to us through God, his Word, and his people) that we are going to be parents to many.

I don't know what many is (and Lord, I probably don't want to!) but Eric and I are willing to do whatever it takes to further God's kingdom.
To be molded into the image of Christ.
To serve.
To love.
To give God all the glory, because he is worthy!

Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.  - 1 Timothy 1:17

So I hope that I haven't disappointed anyone, but it doesn't really matter because I know - in this - that I am not disappointing God.

I promise, when we know more, so will you ;)

  1. I am so excited for you guys! I have been so anxiously waiting for your home study, waiting for calls on kids who would soon be arriving for visits, waiting for the call that says your kids are staying their very first night with you guys... anxiously awaiting all kinds of things for you! I know God put you on this path for sure, and I can't wait to see what happens. I can't say that I am not disappointed that you are not further along with all of this, but I trust God's timing (as freaking hard as that is!!!). I know that if you would have had little ones running around you probably wouldn't have gone on that Costa Rica trip... and you needed that trip so much. Everything will be clear if you just keep giving in to Him. He will keep your path straight. He will continue to give you peace about your decisions. He will guide every decision to come. I can just PICTURE your home in 10 years! I picture it and I just can't help but get excited! Lula Mae is going to just LOVE it too! And plus I will love it too!!!!!!!!!!!! Always praying for you! This post was, somehow, exactly how I pictured it. Don't worry about what people think about your post, it is for you. The end. Oh and I love you!

  9. God is amazing! He definitely takes us down paths we don't expect! Sending up a prayer for His will and peace to be shown in your lives! I know we did not expect to see 21 months of waiting and no news. But God has a perfect plan and we will wait on Him!
"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you a hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11 :) This is a verse I've memorized this year and learned to trust in (among others - I've never been good at memorizing scripture - see the things God teaches us along the journey!) :) Anyway - all this to say that you're awesome and your faith is an inspiration! God bless!

  11. I know exactly what you are saying - I felt God was speaking to me about taking in foster care children. It took me while to get all the paper work done I also was not calling etc. Except it was all in God's hands. I now have a beautiful adopted daughter that is almost 4. I have had her since birth. So everything happens for a reason. Yes God knows the plan!!!! Have a great weekend!!!!

  12. It's the obedience, isn't it? And it's hard when we don't see a result right away, but we have stepped out in faith and are waiting on His timing.

It doesn't always make sense, but HE has the big picture and I am so thankful for your faithful hearts. Such a beautiful post.
